Introducing our Blog

We are two students of textile design at Metropolia University of applied Sciences. We are doing an "international project"-course independently, which entails us designing and manufacturing a piece of furniture for the Heimtextile-fair in Frankfurt (12. - 15.01.2016).

Heimtextil is the biggest international textilefair. People have been gathering there for 40 years already. The fair has over 67000 visitors annually, and 2700 presenters. It is a gathering of large textile manufacturers, smaller design companies, freelancers, entrepreneurs, purchasers, indurstry insiders, and students. It is a showcase of the latest innovations, and offers workshops for the whole duration.

The theme for this year is Hotel Europe. The students are tasked to design a textile, or a furniture and showcase it. We will be designing a large divan for a hotel lobby.

We are of one mind on the fact, that we want to use recycled materials. Recycling and upcycling are the basis for our project. We want to use recycled materials to create something that looks and feels like a brand new piece of furniture. We want to create something grand!

This blog is to keep track of our progress, sketches, and all the way to the fair. We have two months, so might as well get started. ;)
